The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has faced backlash from filmmakers and Jewish organizations after it withdrew an invitation for a documentary about the October 7 attacks by Hamas. The festival cited legal and safety concerns regarding the film, titled "The Road Between Us: The Ultimate Rescue."

Produced by Melbar Entertainment Group and directed by Canadian filmmaker Barry Avrich, the documentary focuses on retired Israel Defence Forces General Noam Tibon. It recounts Tibon's urgent journey from Tel Aviv to Kibbutz Nahal Oz, where he aimed to rescue his son Amir's family during the attacks.

Avrich previously described the film as a narrative centered on humanity, family, and sacrifice. "This film is not about politics, it’s about humanity, family and sacrifice," he stated last year when the project was still in pre-production under the title "To the Last Breath." He emphasized the extraordinary nature of Tibon's actions, saying, "In one day, one extraordinary man reversed the fate of his family and inspired the world. We look forward to working with Noam and his family to document this jaw-dropping story."

The decision to rescind the invitation has raised concerns among those involved in the film and supporters who believe it highlights a significant personal story amid a complex political backdrop.
