CHARDON, Ohio — Not much has changed at Chardon, even with a new head football coach.

Brian Landies, like his predecessor Mitch Hewitt, is a graduate of the school. He served as Hewitt’s defensive coordinator throughout much of his 15 years as an assistant for the school, which won back-to-back state championships in 2020 and ’21.

“It’s a new role,” Landies said Tuesday during practice. “The last couple weeks have been the most familiar. Just a lot more communication. A lot more. It seems like the phone never stops dinging and ringing.”

Chardon has been built on defense, but it will be helped by returning quarterback Drayton Allgood and a Division I college prospect on the line in tackle Andrew Baggott. He anchors a big offensive line that is versatile and can play an unbalanced look to
