A person's age is one of the best predictors of how much longer they are likely to live. This is the main idea behind life expectancy.
Life expectancy is a statistical measure of how long a person is expected to live, based on factors like age, gender, and health conditions. It is calculated using age-specific death rates and published annually in the Trustees Reports for Social Security's Old-Age and Survivors Insurance (OASI) and Disability Insurance (DI).
As a person ages, their life expectancy tends to increase because they have already overcome many of the mortality risks associated with younger years, such as infant mortality, childhood diseases, accidents and other early-life threats.
