An Everett man whom police described as a member of an “extreme anti-Zionist” organization was arrested Thursday for allegedly leaving improvised incendiary devices on the Boston Common, vandalizing a statue of George Washington, and splattering the State House with paint mixed with feces.

Jermaiah Yusuf Sawaqed, 25, is charged with vandalism and destruction of property, vandalizing a war or veterans memorial, and possession, transportation, or use of a hoax device or substance. He was arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on Monday and held on $30,000 bail.

Sawaqed does not yet have an attorney, court records show.

In court filings, police allege that Sawaqed, who works for a biotechnology company in Cambridge, is a member of the Direct-Action Movement for Palestinian Liberation.
