Jana Timpson was in town visiting from Salt Lake City, Utah, for a special mother-and-son trip when she decided to float the Boise River. What was supposed to be a relaxing experience turned into a terrifying ordeal when she ended up losing everything she’d brought with her.
While kayaking near Capitol Boulevard, a fallen tree had created a large obstacle in the water. When their kayak slammed into the tree, both Timpson and her 13-year-old son were knocked into the fast flowing river.
“I almost drowned, it was awful. It was terrifying,” Timpson said.
Her son, wearing a life jacket, resurfaced downstream and began screaming for help. But Timpson was trapped underneath the tree’s branches, unable to break free — until a teenage boy pulled her out.
