CALHOUN COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) - Calhoun County officials say they’ve ended negotiations with a volunteer fire department for a contract allowing the latter to operate in the county.

The county said Wednesday that it decided to end talks with the Sandy Run Fire Department on Aug. 8.

The county said in a statement that it was “unfortunate” that they could not reach an agreement, but that its administration is “committed to providing continued fire protection for the entire county.”

Calhoun County said in a letter released alongside the statement that it had discussed the issue with current fire chiefs and other leaders of unincorporated fire districts, which led to the decision to withdraw an offer for the Sandy Run Fire Department.
