Many New Jersey residents and even more people along the East Coast spotted a bright light in the sky on Tuesday evening after a Vulcan rocket launched from Florida.
The rocket blasted off from Cape Canaveral by the United Launch Alliance shortly before 9 p.m., according to CBS News . It was equipped with a fully classified spacecraft and an experimental satellite .
The mission marked the U.S. military’s first experimental navigation satellite launch in 48 years, according to Space.com .
The satellites were headed 23,300 miles above the equator, CBS News reported.
Many people took to social media to share photos and videos of the bright object illuminating the night sky, with some users initially believing it to be a UFO.
