WOODHULL, N.Y. (WETM) – A Woodhull woman has been arrested on welfare fraud charges after officials say she stole benefits from the Steuben County Department of Social Services.
Melissa A. Potoeski, 34, was arrested on Wednesday, Aug. 13, on the following charges, as stated in a release from the Steuben County Sheriff's Office: • Offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree (class E felony) • Welfare fraud in the fourth degree (class E felony) • Falsifying business records in the first degree (class E felony) • Grand larceny in the fourth degree (class E felony)
Officials say Potoeski was charged with the crimes by investigators after it was determined that she had provided false documents to social services from Jan. 1, 2025, to March 31, 2025, and received $2,256
