LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - A new production based on a popular book and movie is coming to a historic theatre in Jennings this month.
“Misery,” first published by Stephen King in 1987, rose to fame when it hit the big screen in 1990. William Goldman, who wrote the screenplay for the film, also adapted it into a play.
The Strand Theatre, home of the A Block Off Broadway community theatre group, is an Art Deco-style movie theatre built back in 1939. The cast and crew believe it’s the perfect place to pay homage to Stephen King’s psychological thriller.
“It has a very rich history, being on Main Street here in Jennings. It’s a historical building – so many shows, movies, theatrical productions have been performed here,” Marketing Director Amy Leger said.
