The original Voting Rights Act of 1965 was excellent, and it had an excellent expiration date for when the Southern states no longer practiced racial discrimination against non-white voters.
The original Voting Rights Act of 1965 did not envision a permanent management of elections in selected states, once there were no legal impediments to voting based on race.
Let a new Voting Rights Act not discriminate against certain states based on long-past history. Let a new Voting Rights Act apply to all states equally, and not focus on only those that once practiced racial discrimination in voting many decades and generations ago.
