The Vancouver school board unanimously voted Tuesday to adopt a 2025-26 budget that will result in a low fund balance at the end of the year.
Vancouver Public Schools previously cut $35 million from its budget in March 2024 to address a gap between state funding and costs during the 2024-25 school year. That gap is expected to grow for the 2025-26 school year, according to Vancouver’s budget webpage .
The district expects to spend the general fund down from $7 million to $195,180, but the balance will increase in the following years, said Brett Blechschmidt, Vancouver’s interim superintendent, formerly the chief financial officer and associate superintendent .
