Paul Blackburn is returning from his rehab assignment and will rejoin the Mets for tonight’s game against the Braves. In a corresponding move, the team is optioning Justin Hagenman to Triple-A.
Carlos Mendoza said before yesterday’s game that Blackburn would be making another rehab start and would not be an option to take the ball on Saturday—Frankie Montas was moved to the bullpen, and Nolan McLean was named the starter for Saturday. Blackburn is running up against the end of his rehab clock and has missed considerable time this season, most recently with a shoulder injury. He last pitched for the Mets on June 28. In six appearances for New York this year, including four starts, he owns a 7.71 ERA with 15 strikeouts and eight walks over 18 2/3 innings pitched.
