The Mets jumped all over old friend Carlos Carrasco and held a 6-0 lead heading into the fourth inning before all hell broke loose. The pitching imploded in spectacular fashion starting with David Peterson and ending with Reed Garrett. Michael Harris II’s grand slam culminated a nine-run inning for the Braves where they scored nine runs and sent twelve men to the plate. The Mets also walked five batters that inning. The newly recalled Paul Blackburn gave up two runs in the sixth to thoroughly put the game out of reach. One day after the team was riding the high of Pete Alonso’s home run record, the the clock struck midnight and they turned back into the same bumbling pumpkin where the team can’t get out of its own way. It’s not looking good for the 2025 Mets.
