A Miami Police officer has been suspended following his arrest in a 2020 littering incident, officials said.

Guillermo Arteaga, 29, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of violating Florida's litter law over 5 pounds, records show. Broward Sheriff's Office

Court records showed the incident happened back on April 18, 2020, when an officer spotted him dumping litter on the side of Pembroke Road near U.S. 27 in Broward.

The incident happened on state land and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission filed the charge in 2023, records showed.

In a statement Wednesday, Miami Police officials said Arteaga has been relieved of duty pending the outcome of an investigation that's being handled by the department's Internal Affairs Section.
