MOLINE, Ill. (KWQC) - The Mexican Independence Day Parade & Fiesta originally set to take place on Sept. 14 has been canceled.

The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Council #5285 said they regretfully are announcing the cancellation of this year’s Mexican Independence Day Parade & Fiesta.

“This difficult decision comes after facing a series of unforeseen challenges that impact our ability to host the event in a safe, secure and welcoming environment for our community,” officials said.

The parade and fiesta had been relocated to Runner’s Park in East Moline, but the venue became unavailable due to construction, officials said. In searching for an alternative site, the council encountered additional difficulties in securing appropriate insurance coverage for the event.
