PHILADELPHIA — Shedeur Sanders had his opportunity to make his NFL debut at the end of a joint practice week with the Carolina Panthers . That opportunity came about in part because of a hamstring injury to Dillon Gabriel .

Gabriel's first NFL start was basically secured by two things: First, his hamstring issue healing, and, second, an oblique strain suffered by Sanders in Aug. 13's joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles .

Those two facts have all but cleared the path for Gabriel to start the 1 p.m. preseason game between the Browns and Eagles Aug. 16.
