CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals issued a temporary injunction in favor of a transgender teen who sued the state over a rule dictating which bathroom the teen must use.
A court order prohibits the state of South Carolina, the state’s Board of Education, the Department of Education and the Berkeley County School District from enforcing a ban on transgender students using restrooms that match their gender identities. But the order notes that the injunction applies only to the student suing the state, identified in court documents as “John Doe.”
The order, filed on Tuesday, also denied a state motion to dismiss the suit.
