WASHINGTON — Things are getting paw-litical in Somerville, Massachusetts. The city has gone all in on an election for “Bike Path Mayor.” The contest, voted on via a public Google form , pits neighborhood cats against one another for the ceremonial title.
The fun began when Berry, a 3-year-old shorthair and current incumbent, first appeared on a campaign-style sign along the popular bike path.
Berry’s owner, Mallory Bissett, created the sign to let passersby know the cat wasn’t a stray.
"We wanted people to know she has owners and she was well taken care of and loved, and that she wasn't just a random cat roaming around," Bissett told NBC10 .
But the title used, "Bike Path Mayor," quickly sparked competition.
