Most, if not all special teams units you see at any level of football provides a mix of offensive and defensive players seeing time on the field.
Auburn special teams coordinator Chad Lunsford is no different. He’s been tinkering with a couple of players on the defense for certain plays in both the kicking and punting game.
Freshmen Jared Smit h and Bryce Deas were two defenders he spoke about to members of the media Wednesday afternoon.
“Jared jumped out to us last week when we were doing some good-on-good situations in special teams,” Lunsford said. “He had great get-off and as long as he is, that wingspan, he could be a guy that could help us in that area of punt return. He’s also helping us on punt and kickoff.”
