BATTLE CREEK, MI – One firefighter suffered minor burns, a sprained ankle and heat exhaustion after crews responded to two overnight fires in Battle Creek on Wednesday, Aug. 13.

The first fire was at an occupied home shortly before 12:30 a.m. on North Kendall Street, according to a news release from the Battle Creek Fire Department.

Crews arrived to find flames coming from a second-floor window of a two-story wooden frame home. Firefighters extinguished the fire in the second-flood bedroom and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The second fire was reported around 5:30 a.m. at an abandoned home on Highway Street. Crews arrived and found fire on the second floor of the buildling.
