CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department were working to identify the people responsible for two separate financial crimes.

Two incidents were reported to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police in 2025, according to Detective Jacqueline Clyburn with the Crime Stoppers division. Clyburn spoke with WBTV about the crimes this week.

Man loses money wired for car

According to Clyburn, one situation unfolded after a man tried to buy a classic car he had seen online. The man reportedly wired money to a Wells Fargo bank account, and received nothing in return.

“They were under the impression that they were purchasing a classic vehicle or a vintage vehicle,” Clyburn said.
