FORT SMITH, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The Fort Smith Board of Directors appointed a new internal auditor a month after the previous auditor received a six-month deferred sentence following a stalking accusation.
According to the board's agenda summary, Amanda Strange was appointed as director of internal audit pending finalization of an employment agreement and a resolution affirming the appointment and authorizing an employment agreement to be placed on the Sept. 2 regular meeting agenda for consideration.
The board approved Strange's appointment in a unanimous decision.
The previous auditor, Rebecca Cowan, was arrested on a felony stalking charge in Oklahoma.
Her sentence was reduced to a misdemeanor violation of the Computer Crimes Act charge. She was given unsupervised probation.
