KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Two Knox County businesses are warning residents after they lost thousands of dollars in check fraud.

WVLT News obtained 15 reports from the Knoxville Police Department related to check fraud over the last two months.

Alejandro Guanaga owns Outdoor Gear Revival. He said he put a $3,300 check in a drop box outside a US Post Office, but that check never made it to his landlord.

“Aside from everything else you have to worry about now, worrying about our checks being stolen and cashed,” Guanaga said. “It’s difficult”.

Guanaga isn’t alone. USPS Inspector Rob Firkin said his office in Knoxville has gotten several reports from across East Tennessee.

“We’ve gotten reports from Blount County, Hawkins County, Grainger County and Knoxville,” said Firkin.
