A school bus accident in Austin, Texas, on Wednesday left 12 people injured, including children and the driver. The bus, carrying 42 students and one adult, rolled over on its side on the first day of school for the Leander Independent School District.

Emergency services responded to the scene on Nameless Road shortly after 3:15 p.m. local time. Photos from the incident show the yellow bus overturned and damaged, resting against an embankment surrounded by trees.

Of the injured, 12 individuals were transported to local hospitals. Among them, one person sustained life-threatening injuries, while two others had potentially life-threatening conditions. The remaining injuries were classified as non-life-threatening. It has not been confirmed whether the adult on board was among those taken to the hospital.

The bus was identified as a 2024 Bluebird model, equipped with seatbelts. According to preliminary investigations by the Texas Department of Public Safety, the bus was traveling south on Nameless Road when it veered off the right side of the roadway and rolled over for an unknown reason.

Nine children and the bus driver were taken to hospitals, with two children airlifted for treatment. The remaining students were taken to a reunification center at Round Mountain Baptist Church for further evaluation and to reconnect with their families.

Travis County Judge Andy Brown confirmed that no fatalities or life-threatening injuries were reported among the children. This incident marks a troubling start to the school year, as it is the first day of classes for the district.

In a separate incident earlier on the same day, another school bus in Texas was involved in a crash, raising concerns about student safety on the roads.
