Republican voters living in Newton and Jasper counties will have at least two experienced candidates competing in next year's GOP primary election for the chance to represent Indiana's 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House.
Two-term state Rep. Craig Haggard, R-Mooresville, this week announced his intent to challenge four-term Congressman Jim Baird, R-Greencastle, for the Republican nomination in the district that currently runs from Northwest Indiana through Lafayette and into the western Indianapolis suburbs.
Haggard said his top priority, if elected, is "to fight for the families, farmers and freedom-lovers in Indiana's 4th District."
In response, Baird said he's running for reelection to continue fighting on the House floor "to ensure the people of the 4th District
