MERCER CO., Ill. (KWQC) - The Mercer County School District has postponed the first day of school after mold was found in the high school.
On Wednesday, high school staff found “significant mold” in the classroom portion of the main building, according to a statement from Superintendent Tim Farquer, KWQC obtained.
Because of the air quality issue, students will not have class on Thursday or Friday. Classes were supposed to start on Thursday.
Farquer said building custodians and staff will work to fix the issue on Thursday, making all high school classroom areas off-limits to students and staff.
He said the district is working with sanitation and air quality experts to fix the issue and make sure the air in the high school is safe before students and staff return.
