ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- A training session scheduled for Elmira next month aims to help people become better prepared for the next natural or man-made disaster.

The New York State Homeland Security and Emergency Services department will host a free Citizens Preparedness Training event. It's taking place on Monday, September 22nd at the First Presbyterian Church at 1054 West Clinton Street in Elmira at 6 P.M., in the Hoffman Great Room.

The course will provide information on responding to a disaster, how to prepare an emergency plan, and stocking up on emergency supplies. Families that attend will receive one preparedness kit.
