OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - What started as one sister’s grief over her brother is now a wider topic, aiming to help a community talk about men’s mental health.
Kalina Lord lost her brother Nick Roberts to suicide two and a half years ago.
Lord said her brother was a bright person to many people.
“When people say that like somebody would walk into a room and light the entire room up, nick would really do that.“
Lord’s brother had a love of fishing and being part of the community.
After Roberts’ death, Lord had a chance to share her brother’s story by speaking on a panel about mental health and suicide awareness.
She said the impact gave her a greater purpose.
“I think seeing how much it meant to people and how much it meant to that age group was what determined me the most.“
