MUSCATINE, Iowa (KCRG) - On Friday, people gathered outside the Muscatine County courthouse asking the Muscatine County Attorney to release a man who his attorney says is being held in the Muscatine County jail, even though he was the victim of a crime.
On June 21st, family and community leaders, including immigration rights group Escucha Mi Voz, say Jesús Hernández was robbed and shot by two people who tried to steal his car while he was driving to his construction job.
He was home for one day from the hospital when he went to pick up his car, where his family says he was detained. Hernández is undocumented, and came to the United States from Mexico in 2021 with his now 9-year-old son.
