A man has claimed that his Universal Credit payments were halted after an unknown individual mistakenly used his National Insurance number upon starting a new job.
Ryan-Jay Walsh, who has been unable to work since November 2024 due to health issues, says he has been relying on Universal Credit since then, having undergone multiple surgeries and awaiting one final operation.
The 30-year-old from Hyde, Tameside, told the Manchester Evening News that he typically receives his payment of approximately £1,300 on the ninth of each month. However, when no pending transaction appeared by August 7, Ryan began to worry.
