SOUTH BEND, Ind.– South Bend’s Common Council held the first out of eight budget proposal meetings tonight.

The city is facing the repercussions of Senate Bill One, which significantly reduces the amount of funding the city receives from the state. Now, leaders are cutting funds from every department and saving money wherever they can.

Earlier this summer, the council told departments to not expect any pay increases, but James Mueller, Mayor of South Bend, believes in paying employees for the work they do.
