PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for a significant portion of the West Valley as storms arrive in the greater Phoenix area.

The warning is in effect until 10 p.m. Wednesday and includes portions of Avondale, Glendale, and Peoria.

Arizona’s Family was at the scene near 7th Avenue and Indian School Road in central Phoenix where rain began falling after 9 p.m.

Storm chances then ramp up further into Thursday, with improved chances for measurable rain across the Valley being on Friday, which is a First Alert Weather Day .

The biggest potential impacts will be strong winds, patchy blowing dust and pockets of heavy rain. This could also be the first time we see measurable rain at Sky Harbor since the beginning of July.
