MONROE, N.C. – The City of Monroe has issued a boil water notice for all City of Monroe water customers until midday Thursday. A city spokesperson says routine testing detected the presence of E. coli in a small section of the way system near the Monroe Fire Department station 4 at 3907 Old Charlotte Highway.
This means customers should boil water before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing your teeth or giving it to your pets.
The boil water notice is expected to be lifted by midday Thursday.
City officials say testing identified nine customers impacted, but the State issued the system-wide notice. City water crews are working with the NC Department of Environmental Quality and the NC Department of Health and Human services.
