TORONTO — The Chicago Cubs are giving an opportunity to their top prospect.

Lefty slugger Owen Caissie is being called up, sources confirmed to the Tribune, and the Canadian outfielder will join the team in Toronto for Thursday’s series finale.

The Cubs needed to make a move as catcher Miguel Amaya heads to the injured list after spraining his left ankle from an awkward step on first base during the eighth inning of Wednesday’s 4-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

With the trade deadline passed and roughly six weeks to go in the regular season, the Cubs are starting to prioritize having their best players on the big-league squad, something president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer indicated was on the horizon with future decisions.
