Kid Cudi has insisted he is "done" with his former collaborator Kanye West.

In an interview for CBS Mornings on Wednesday, the rapper - real name Scott Mescudi - reflected on cutting ties with the controversial hip-hop star, also known as Ye.

"It's a sad thing," he mused, while journalist Anthony Mason questioned, "Sad in what way?"

In response, Cudi explained: "The freedom that we experienced when we were creating, it just will never happen ever again, you know? And that is the heartbreaking side of things."

Mason then asked whether West broke his heart in the same way, to which he emphasised, "I think he has over and over, multiple times."

Previously, Cudi and West, 48, released the album Kids See Ghosts in 2018 and also co-wrote many singles together, including 2008's Heartless and 2009's Make Her Say.

In recent years, the Stronger rapper has courted controversy by expressing antisemitic views on social media and claiming he admired Adolf Hitler, leading to him being widely condemned and losing out on lucrative partnerships.

However, Cudi claimed West's breaking of "the code of a friendship" was the reason they no longer speak.

In particular, the Day 'n' Nite hitmaker noted that he was infuriated when the father-of-four made a disrespectful comment about their late friend, Virgil Abloh.

The fashion designer died of angiosarcoma, a rare type of cancer, at the age of 41 in 2021.

"He said some things that there's just no coming back from... Every time he took a dig at Virgil, it just made me super angry. Virgil was an angel to everyone; there's no coming back from that, man," the 41-year-old added. "Like, I'm done with you, and it breaks my heart, because I loved Kanye, you know? I really loved him, he was a part of my life changing. And at some point, he was a really good friend, but the man that he has become, I just don't know that guy anymore. I don't know him, I don't know that version of him, and it's really heartbreaking."

Representatives for West have not yet responded to Cudi's comments.
