The New Bedford Whaling Museum is hosting a special event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Cape Verdean independence. The First Friday event will take place at 5 p.m. on Sept. 5, and will feature the KabuJazz Ensemble, led by vocalist Candida Rose Baptista, according to a community announcement.
The evening will blend Cabo Verdean rhythms with American jazz, offering a unique cultural experience. The KabuJazz Ensemble aims to honor the legacy and resilience of the Cabo Verdean people through music.
The program aligns with two of the museum’s current exhibitions: "Morabeza" and "Claridade." These exhibitions showcase the stories of Cape Verdean Americans in New Bedford through art, oral histories, photographs and personal narratives.
