New Jersey-based manufacturer DermaRite Industries is voluntarily recalling several of its over-the-counter soaps and skin care products after dangerous bacteria was found during testing.

According to a recall notice from DermaRite Industries, Burkholderia cepacia complex, a bacterium that can cause life-threatening infections, was detected in the products.

Immunosuppressed people who use the soaps are at high risk for infection because the bacteria can spread into their bloodstream, leading to life-threatening sepsis. Healthy people with minor skin lesions who use the soap run the risk of contracting local skin infections.

As of Aug. 9, DermaRite has not received any reports of adverse events related to this recall, according to the health notice.
