MASON, Tenn. (WMC) - A chaotic night in rural west Tennessee ended in the approval to reopen a former prison as a detention center for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Tuesday.

The company in charge of running the facility is CoreCivic, a private prison company that runs over 80 facilities in Tennessee.

Residents in Mason say they are not happy about the choice by the town’s leadership.

CoreCivic’s history in Mason is not good, according to residents within the town and those who live in neighboring communities.

“All money ain’t good money,” said Civil Miller-Watkins, a Fayette County resident. Miller-Watkins explained that the reopening of the facility is not the only business investment the town should look for.
