SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (WLNE) — Rhode Island conman Nicholas Alahverdian was found guilty of rape by a Salt Lake County jury Wednesday night.
Alahverdian, also known as Nicholas Rossi, famously faked his own death in 2020 and fled the country, before being extradited back to the U.S. from Scotland last year.
The trial lasted only three days.
The rape reportedly occurred in 2008, after he met a woman on Craigslist and the pair became engaged in just a few weeks.
The assault happened the day she tried to break up with him.
According to the Associated Press, the woman came forward after learning that Alahverdian was accused of another rape in the same year.
Alahverdian is set to stand trial in that rape case in Utah County in September.
He’s set to be sentenced in this case on October 20
