The suspect in a deadly downtown Birmingham shooting was mistakenly released from the Jefferson County Jail, police said, and is now back in custody.

Terrance Akeem Alexander, 37, of Pinson, is charged with murder in the slaying of 31-year-old Taevon Jamir Arnold.

Alexander, who was taken into custody in less than 24 hours of the Friday killing, was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 11:25 a.m. Monday.

He was released just after 8 a.m. Tuesday on bonds totaling $120,000.

Birmingham on Wednesday said Alexander was mistakenly released on bond and quickly re-captured .

Jefferson County Circuit Judge Shanta Owens in a court order stated that Alexander was mistakenly given a bond of $60,000 by the magistrate’s office when he should have been held without bond pending an Aniah’s Law
