HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- In a 3-2 vote, Harris County Commissioners have approved a raise for Harris County Constables.

The salaries for the eight selected constables are set to spike up to $293,000 each. Right now, they make about $178,000 per year, after also getting a raise in 2024.

But this isn't a done deal yet until the budget is approved.

Meanwhile, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo and Commissioner Rodney Ellis voted against the raises.

Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff's Office want more money, as do the eight elected constables in the county. This all comes on the heels of pay raises that were approved for the Houston Police Department in May.

That same month, county commissioners voted to approve pay parity with HPD.
