HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A 13-year-old has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the Fourth of July shooting death of his 14-year-old brother in northeast Harris County, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

On Thursday, Gonzalez shared the update on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the 13-year-old was arrested and charged.

The shooting happened in the 3100 block of Gianna Springs Court in the Humble area. Initially, the victim's 17-year-old sister said her brother had shot himself. Authorities later learned the 13-year-old was playing with the weapon when it went off.

Additional details on the case were not immediately released.

The 13-year-old has been booked into the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center.
