CANFIELD The Mahoning County OVI Task Force will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint somewhere in Mahoning County the night of Friday, August 15.

More specific details including the time and location will be announced on the day of the checkpoint.

This checkpoint will be accompanied by saturation patrols from various law enforcement agencies throughout the weekend to deter and intercept impaired drivers on the road.

A 1990 U.S. Supreme Court ruling requires that drivers be notified before sobriety checkpoints are conducted to avoid violating constitutional protections against illegal search and seizure. The ruling did not specify what constitutes adequate notification.
