A Fairbanks judge dismissed an indictment against a man accused of beating another man with a baseball bat last March after finding that improper evidence was introduced to the grand jury.

Superior Court Judge Earl Peterson dismissed the indictment on Aug. 8 for two counts of felony first-degree assault and felony attempted murder against 40-year-old Robert Edward Reichmann Jr.

Reichmann was accused in March 2024 of attacking a friend with a baseball bat outside a Seventeenth Avenue home, seriously injuring the man’s skull. His brother allegedly stopped the assault and drove the victim to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital in the early morning hours of March 3, 2024. His trial was scheduled to begin Aug. 25 at the Rabinowitz Courthouse.
