JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WTAJ) -- A citizen of Honduras who was previously deported multiple times has pleaded guilty in federal court to charges of violating immigration and fraud laws, Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti announced.
Jose Mejia-Sarmiento, 66, pleaded guilty to nine counts of the indictment before United States District Judge Stephanie L. Haines Wednesday, Aug. 13.
In connection with the plea, the court was advised that Mejia-Sarmiento was found in the United States and deported three different times from 1996 to 2016. The man also made false statements to the Social Security Administration four different times between May 2024 and February 2025 by possessing and using someone else's identification.
Judge Haines scheduled sentencing for December 9.
