Members of the Gainesville High School class of 1975 — bonded by memories, shared laughter and the unshakeable spirit of the Purple Hurricanes — gathered recently to celebrate their 50th reunion.

Held Aug. 8-10, the reunion weekend kicked off with a meet-and-greet at the Daft Cow Brewery at Tech City in Alachua. The event included music, hors d’oeuvres and a signature "Purple Haze" mocktail created especially for the occasion. Many smiles entered the hall as some were seeing classmates they had not seen in decades.

On Aug. 9, current Gainesville High Assistant Principal Fred Ashford gave a tour of the GHS campus. Returning alumni enjoyed seeing the marquee welcoming the class of 1975 back to the school.
