Ana Navarro has urged Gloria Gaynor to reject Donald Trump's Kennedy Center Honor.
On Thursday, The View co-host took to Instagram to share a message urging Gaynor, best known for her 1978 track I Will Survive, to turn down the honour from President Trump.
"A few years ago, I got to briefly meet @gloriagaynor at a concert in Miami," Navarro began. "She gifted me a keychain that belted out 'I Will Survive,' when you pressed it."
She continued, "Let's just say, during first Trump term, I pressed it til it ran out of batteries."
The political commentator then noted that Gaynor had been announced on Wednesday as one of this year's Kennedy Center Honor recipients, chosen by Trump.
"Look, the woman is a goddess and deserves all the flowers that come her way," she continued. "But I wish she wouldn't accept an award from the hands of a man who has attacked the rights and history of women, people of color and LGBTQ."
Navarro added that the gay community had helped turn Gaynor's signature song into an "anthem".
She concluded the post, "Trump is a stain on the prestige and significance of the KCH. Don't do it, Gloria!"
The U.S. president revealed this year's Kennedy Center honourees during a press conference at the performing arts center on Wednesday. The other recipients are actor Sylvester Stallone, rock band Kiss, actor and comedian Michael Crawford, and country singer-songwriter George Strait.
Trump is set to host the 2025 Kennedy Center Honors in December, which recognise individuals who have made significant contributions to American culture through the performing arts.
Trump announced in February that he had been "unanimously" elected as chair of the Kennedy Center's board. He then faced backlash when he replaced board members appointed by his predecessor, Joe Biden.
Several big names, including Shonda Rhimes, Issa Rae, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, have distanced themselves from the centre and cancelled appearances in light of Trump's new role.
