SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Two suspects were arrested in Springfield after one of them allegedly pointed a firearm at detectives and the other attempted to block their vehicle from leaving.

In a news release from the Springfield Police Department, at around 4:20 p.m. on Wednesday, detectives with the Firearms Investigation Unit were investigating in the area of Governor Street when their unmarked cruiser was approached by a vehicle alongside them.

The driver initiated a conversation with the detectives (who were in plain clothes) before driving away and parking on the street. Approximately ten minutes later, the detectives started to drive away when the driver, later identified as 21-year-old Johnathan Melendez of Springfield, allegedly moved their car to prevent them from leaving.
