Michigan Medicine is alerting people to a breach of protected health information that occurred on June 27, when postcards were mailed to recruit people to join a research study.

More than 1,000 postcards were mailed without envelopes, exposing "a limited amount" of health information to anyone who handled the mail.

The protected health information of more than 1,000 people was exposed when recruiters for a medical study at Michigan Medicine sent postcards without envelopes , revealing personal details to anyone who might have handled the mail.

Michigan Medicine, the academic medical center of the University of Michigan, reported on Aug. 14 that the postcards, which were mailed June 27, exposed "a limited amount" of health information for 1,015 people.
