South Africa submitted a revised offer for a trade deal to Washington on August 12, South Africa’s Trade Minister Parks Tau said, in an effort to lower the 30% tariff rate Donald Trump imposed on exports to the United States.
“With regard to continued engagements with the US to secure a deal and reduce the tariffs, cabinet has approved that South Africa submits a revised offer as a basis for negotiations with the US. The new offer builds on the previous offer submitted in May 2025. A news offer substantively response to the issues the US has raised in the 2025 national trade estimates report," Tau said.
